If you’re looking for a good hack n’ slash, be sure to give Onimusha a go. You can tell the game has references to Resident Evil, but that’s not a bad thing at all. The storyline is also interesting and will keep you playing to see how the story unfolds. The tank controls take a little bit of getting used to, but aren’t horrible. You go around fighting demons and collecting their souls or orbs to power up your stats and upgrade your weapons. Onimusha 2 (ps2 iso) is an amazing third person hack n’ slash game. If you are having problems with seeing thing such as your character, chests, torches, etc through the pre-rendered buildings and scenery then enable Software rendering under the same config options as weave onimusha 2 (ps2 rom). If you are using PCSX2 and have problems with screen shaking then enable “Weave tff (saw-tooth)” under Config > Video > Plugin settings. It’s a very short game (I beat it in about 5 hours) but it is definitely one that should be played. The controls take a little getting used to, but once you learn to block and evade while throwing combos and trying for that super sweet 1-shot issen then the combat becomes incredibly satisfying. Fighting lots of enemies is encouraged, you will occasionally need to have obtained a certain level to progress. It runs on the same engine as Resident Evil, but instead of being a survival/horror game, it is much more action orinted and melee weapons are the standard fighting fare (although there are some ranged). It’s set during fuedal Japan and blends both actual history and the supernatural. This is the first entry in the Onimusha series.
